Toccata for Solo Flute

Toccata for solo flute (2003) was composed for Yong Clark, who premiered it in Baltimore in May 2005. The obsessive repeated notes that begin the work act as a calm axis around which increasingly paroxysmal movement flutters. The calmer, fluid middle section acts as a temporary balm after which the opening returns, gathering even more energy. A screamed allusion to the once-calm middle section ends the piece.
