Brightening

Brightening

$15.00

For bassoon and piano.

Formatted for 8.5x11 (US Letter) printing.

The conceit of the piece is quite simple: a move from a darker mode to a brighter mode, from stasis to activity, and from slow to fast. The progressions are meant to be mostly gradual and don't always proceed at the same rate. Sometimes the tempo will stay the same while the pitch material "brightens," for example. The opening, with its cluster-like sonorities and "inside the piano" techniques is the most contrasting point from the ending, with its clearly-expressed, bright overtone series on C.

Ann Shoemaker’s fantastic recording of Brightening.
